Michael Ringer’s original paintings, bronze sculptures, and etchings can be found in
private and corporate collections nationally and internationally. He began painting the
river after retiring from teaching in 1990 and has completed nearly 1500 works in
several media with the river as the primary subject. The majority of Michael’s work is
focused on the Thousand Islands region and he has completed numerous works as
far north as the Gulf of St Lawrence. He has also painted the Adirondack Mountains
which have become a secondary focus for his painting. He recently produced his
seventh bronze sculpture based on an Adirondack theme titled “The Carry”.
Michael Ringer is also the host of the nationally broadcast PBS show “The Artist’s
World with Michael Ringer”. The show covers the many facets of the profession of
being an artist from publishing, to casting in bronze, to practical lessons in sketching,
and safety in the studio. The show airs to a potential one hundred million people in
the U.S. and Canada. It is currently in its third season.
Five books have been published on his work of the St. Lawrence, and he is a
member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. He has his work featured in
numerous local, state, and national publications. He recently opened a second 4000
sq. ft. gallery in Clayton, NY that will act as a compliment to his main gallery in
Alexandria Bay, NY.
Michael Ringer has probably created the greatest number of paintings, bronzes,
etchings, drawings, books, and prints of the St. Lawrence River of any artist to
date. He has a Masters degree in Art Education from the University of Buffalo.
Michael lives with his wife, Meg, and five daughters on the river near Alexandria Bay.
